Sticking point in Syria truce:
Washington’s support for Al Qaeda

By Bill Van Auken, WSWS

Testifying Tuesday before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Secretary of State John Kerry faced intensely hostile questioning as he defended a Syrian “cessation of hostilities” reached with Moscow that is supposed to go into effect this weekend.

Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer of California suggested that the agreement might be little more than a “rope-a-dope” deal, while the committee’s Republican chairman, Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee, warned that Russia would “continue to kill the folks that are our friends and allies.”

Kerry responded by stressing that there was a “significant discussion taking place now about a Plan B,” presumably entailing a major escalation of the US military intervention in Syria and a potential armed confrontation with Russia, should the truce deal fail to further Washington’s aims.

The key sticking point in the US-Russian deal is precisely the…

Plans for Redrawing the Middle East:

The Project for a “New Middle East”

By Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya, Global Research

This article first published by GR in November 2006 is of particular relevance  to an understanding of the ongoing process of destabilization and political fragmentation of Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

John Kerry’s “Plan B” consists in breaking up Syria and Iraq.

“Hegemony is as old as Mankind…” -Zbigniew Brzezinski, former U.S. National Security Advisor

The term “New Middle East” was introduced to the world in June 2006 in Tel Aviv by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (who was credited by the Western media for coining the term) in replacement of the older and more imposing term, the “Greater Middle East.”

This shift in foreign policy phraseology coincided with the inauguration of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) Oil Terminal in the Eastern Mediterranean. The term and conceptualization of the “New Middle East,” was subsequently heralded by the…

Al-Jaafari: “We don’t recognize the authority of International Commission of Inquiry on Syria”

Bashar-al-Jaafari-529-20160224-1

Syria’s Permanent Envoy to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari said that the Syrian government doesn’t recognize the authority of the The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria  and doesn’t accept discussing its members.

Al-Jaafari, at an informal session for the UN General Assembly held on Tuesday to hear a briefing from members of The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, said “The selectivity and politicization became firm types in the reports and briefings of the commission that rely on fake narrations and misleading testimonies of some people out of the Syrian borders or fabricated reports of non -government organizations.”

He added “The commission ignored the testimonies of thousands of Syrians who were victims of the terrorist organizations’ crimes,” adding” it also ignored the abundant information provided by the Syrian government to the United Nations since  the beginning of the crisis through more than 600 official letters.”

Al-Jaafari regretted that the Commission would be as one of…

[To Create a ‘Salafist Principality’ in North-Syria] Washington Asks Moscow: “Please Do Not Bomb American Troops Operating on the Ground in Northern Syria”

Obama-blame-Putin-for-bombing-terrorists

Washington has requested Moscow not to bomb areas of Northern Syria where US Special Forces are being deployed. These areas are under the jurisdiction of  so-called “moderate opposition” rebels who are supported by the US and its allies.

By Prof Michel Chossudovsky, Global Research

The areas in question pertain to pockets of Northern Syria in which various US-NATO supported jihadist groups including the Islamic State (ISIS) and Al Nusrah are fighting Syrian government forces (SAA) and their allies.  These terrorist pockets are protected by the US-led coalition and Turkey:

The Pentagon has asked Russia to stay away from parts of northern Syria where US special operations troops are training local fighters [i.e. terrorists including the Islamic State ] to combat the Islamic State group [the opposition rebels are allies of ISIS, ISIS is supported by the US and has special forces within its ranks], military officials said Thursday. The acknowledgement is significant because the…

CIA-linked private “security” companies are fighting in Yemen for the US-backed Saudi military campaign.

Al-Qaeda-affiliated mercenaries are also being deployed.
Melding private firms with terror outfits should not surprise.
It’s all part of illegal war making.

By Finian Cunningham ~ RT

Western news media scarcely report on the conflict in Yemen, let alone the heavy deployment of Western mercenaries in the fighting there. In the occasional Western report on Al-Qaeda and related terror groups in Yemen, it is usually in the context of intermittent drone strikes carried out by the US, or with the narrative that these militants are “taking advantage” of the chaos “to expand” their presence in the Arabian Peninsula, as reported here by the Washington Post.

(By Finian Cunningham,  SputnikNews) ~ The evidence points to Washington losing control over its regional underlings. That in turn makes the situation all the more volatile and dangerous.

In this fissile situation of rogue regimes going even more rogue, the prospect of an all-out regional and even global war is sharply increased.

It is common to think of the US and its global system of allies and clients as a top-down order. Washington is the executive and the rest are mere minions and vassals, to do as Uncle Sam beckons.

Historical reflection.

20 September 1973: The Mossad was informed of the presence in Syria of a new very effective missile system.

The Zionist Air Force sent a swarm of warplanes consisting of 63 Phantom over the skies of Tartous.

The answer of the Syrian Air Defense got no further than the classic antiaircraft response.

Israel believed in the non-effectiveness of the Syrian antiaircraft system.

16 days later, exactly the 6 October 1973, began the war better known as the War of the Yom Kippur.

Zionist warplanes were falling on Syrian soil, like the leaves of a tree in autumn, by the action of the mythical Sam-6, Soviet-made.

Putin’s Aleppo Gamble Pays Off

the real Syrian Free Press

syrian-soldier-russian-flags

(By Mike Whitney, ICH) ~ Last week’s game-changing triumph in northern Syria has moved the Russian-led coalition to within striking distance of a decisive victory in Aleppo.  After breaking a 40 month-long siege on the cities of  Nubl and Zahra, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has encircled the country’s industrial hub and is gradually tightening the noose. Crucial supply-lines to the north have been cut leaving the Sunni extremists and anti-government militias stranded inside a vast, urban cauldron. It’s only a matter of time before these disparate renegades are either killed or forced to surrender. A victory in Aleppo will change the course of the war by restoring government control over the densely-populated western corridor. This is why the Obama administration is frantically searching for ways to either delay or derail the Russian-led juggernaut and avoid the impending collapse of US policy in Syria.

Damascus, 12 February 2016 ~ President Bashar al-Assad gave the following interview to AFP News Agency on the developments in Syria and the region:

Journalist: Mr. President, we would like to thank you for taking the time to answer our questions in these crucial moments in the history of Syria and the region.

Question 1: How do you feel when you see tens of thousands of your citizens starving, running away from hunger, from their areas, which are being shelled by your Russian allies, and trying to cross the borders to Turkey? And how do you feel when you see the pictures of them drowning in their attempt to cross the seas?

(FNA)- Turkey has relocated hundreds of terrorists from Idlib province to Aleppo via its soil to block the Kurdish fighters’ rapid advances in Northern Aleppo province, media reports disclosed on Sunday.

At least 400 militants have been transferred to Northern Aleppo to help the terrorists who are losing the ground to the Kurdish fighters who are backed by Russian air force, Arab media outlets said.

The Turkish army has been pounding the positions of the Kurdish fighters in both Northern Lattakia and Northern Aleppo provinces all throughout Sunday to pin down the Syrian army and popular forces and prevent them from shaking hands with the Kurdish troops that are fighting in the Northern parts of Aleppo province.

Several villages in vast areas of Afrin in Northwestern Syria came under artillery shelling by the Turkish army and terrorist groups all throughout Sunday.

syrian-eagle22 terrorists have been eliminated in the Daesh headquarters by a group of diversionists.

Revengers managed to get inside, as they put on the same clothes the Daesh (ISIS) fighters wear.

The incident happened in the city of Al-Bukamal in eastern Syria not far from the border with Iraq.

Having shot down the fighters, the men left the headquarters, but before that they had hanged Syrian flags on the wall and two portraits of the President Bashar al-Assad.

Sabotage is assumed to have been carried out by members of the Zulfiqar Arab bedouin tribes battalion.

Simultaneously a group of fighters from the same unit blasted a car of the Daesh leader in Al-Bukamal.

The terrorist himself and four of his adherents were killed.

The Zulfikar fighters belong to the Shaytat tribe.

After the IS slaughtered their families in 2014, they went over the Syrian army.
